Day 1 of 2012 Field Season.

The crew (well, most of it) out at the site.

Today we began the field school with lectures, on archaeological methods, followed by quick talks on the history of the Cliff mine and the copper mining industry of the mid-nineteenth century. In the afternoon we visited Cliff, for many their first time, and did a short site tour of the industrial core, the mill area, and then Clifton. The conditions were perfect and so far, the vegetation hasn’t leafed out so mucking about in the town site was much easier than its going to be in a couple of weeks.

Though not a thorough tour of the site, the students got a good idea of what to expect in the coming weeks. And when all was said and done they were rewarded with the reminder that they have a quiz tomorrow morning.
