Rainy Friday

It looks like we may get rained out again today. Even worse, the weekend looks pretty bad too. I’ll post early each morning about whether or not we’ve been rained out each day.

The research team will spend another day in the lab today, I think. That may allow me to get some blog posts up!

Hello – My daughter found something old near our camp on the Dead River Storage Basin in Ishpeming Township. I believe it is an old Indian Pipe – perhaps not that old, maybe 100 -200 years. I’m currently in Houghton for Pine Mountain Music Festival.. Was hoping to stop by the Cliff Mine site and ask the archaeologists questions and show them the pipe….but with the weather as it is, I’m not sure where you are today. Can you reply with a location – and if anyone is still available to answer questions? Thank you!

Hi Carrie- the research team and I chatted about your question. We’d be happy to take a look at your pipe, although none of us are experts in Native American material culture or history. I think after taking a look, we will be able to connect you with an appropriate expert.

We are in the lab today at Michigan Tech. If you want to find us, look on a map for the Administration Building and the Academic Office Building on the west end of campus. The lab is in a small building called the “AOB Annex” that is behind the academic office building. You can’t miss the big double doors that open into the parking lot and above them is a white-lettered sign that says “ARCHAEOLOGY LAB.”
